چکیده
introduction malaria is the most important parasitic infection, which is now spread all over the globe. malaria infections with more than two species, especially plasmodium falciparum and p. vivax, are common, but infections with p. malariae and p. falciparum are rare. discussion mixed malaria infection is not uncommon, and it needs to be diagnosed and treated effectively in order to control the disease. travel consultations should be given for all travelers before their trip to endemic countries. case presentation a 33-year-old man presented with fever and chills for three days, pancytopenia, and abnormal liver function tests, peripheral blood smear revealed p. falciparum and p. malariae. after artemisinin-based combination therapy, all of his symptoms subsided.

Plasmodium falciparum and P. malariae
Transmission of Plasmodium falciparum and P. malariae was studied in a village in Burkina Faso. Consecutive captures of mosquitos were organized twice a month over a year and the species of the mosquitos identified. Also, the prevalences and densities of Plasmodium spp. were determined every 2 months in a sample of children who lived in the village. Anopheles gambiae, A. funestus, and A. nili w...
متن کاملTheoretical analysis of mixed Plasmodium malariae and Plasmodium falciparum infections with partial cross-immunity.
A deterministic model for assessing the dynamics of mixed species malaria infections in a human population is presented to investigate the effects of dual infection with Plasmodium malariae and Plasmodium falciparum. Qualitative analysis of the model including positivity and boundedness is performed. In addition to the disease free equilibrium, we show that there exists a boundary equilibrium c...

in peripheral blood smear is a rare occurrence and usually a cause for concern. However, some studies correlate schizontaemia to current or impending symptoms and/ or hyperparasitaemia1, while other studies do not indicate severity and same was observed in uncomplicated cases2. A potential confounder for the clinical consideration of the presence of schizonts may be the missed diagnosis of othe...
متن کاملA Case of Imported Plasmodium malariae Malaria
Malaria, the most common vector-borne parasite infection worldwide, results from infection by Plasmodium species. Approximately 80% of malaria cases are caused by P. vivax, which is broadly distributed from tropical to temperate regions; P. falciparum is the second most common infectious species. P. malariae and P. ovale are responsible for a relatively small proportion of malaria cases. Here, ...

We report an unusual case of transfusion-transmitted malaria which remained undiagnosed for several months in an Italian woman splenectomised and polytransfused for thalassaemia major. The infecting species was Plasmodium malariae, and the patient developed acute renal failure, severe thrombocytopenia, and hepatic failure. Treatment with chlorochine was followed by a slow, but complete recovery...

A 73-year-old woman came to the casualty ward with symptoms of syncopal attacks, weakness, fever with chills and rigors. A provisional diagnosis of Plasmodium vivax malaria was made after the blood investigations. She had deranged renal function tests, altered sensorium and low platelet count. Repeated tests for P. falciparum (Card test) were negative. Glucose-6-Phosphate dehydrogenise (G6PD) l...
